Monona Parks & Recreation partnered with the UW Madison Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture. The Landscape Architecture students were tasked with re-envisioning the San Damiano Property. They identified existing property conditions and researched comparable park designs to guide their ideas. San Damiano Project Steering Committee Responsibilities
The City of Monona reached an agreement to purchase an approximately 10-acre parcel from St. Nobert Abbey at 4123 Monona Drive on September 8, 2020 for a purchase price of $8.6 million.
The San Damiano Project Steering Committee was formed on August 16, 2021 by the Monona City Council to assist the City and the Friends of San Damiano (a 501c3 non-profit) to coordinate the work related to the City’s purchase of the former San Damiano property. The purpose of the Project Steering Committee is to provide advice to the City and the Friends of San Damiano on all issues identified in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) approved on May 26, 2021 by providing input on key issues if/when they arise and to provide direction on fundraising activities and leading the public Visioning and Master plan process with a selected professional services consultant.
The mission of the Project Steering Committee is to engage the community in the development of a financially feasible master plan that conserves San Damiano as a public asset.
