READ TO A DOG

Independent readers may register to read for 20 minutes to a specially trained Reading Education Assistance Dog. Click here to scroll through the list of events at Monona Library to find the monthly Read to a Dog program.

Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Dogs on Call. With the dog as a comfortable, attentive audience (and an occasional gentle assist from the dog’s adult volunteer partner), children are actually teaching themselves to read out loud. For the child, the reading is about the dog. No pressure. No embarrassment. No humiliation.
The Monona Library "Read to a Dog" program is for beginning and independent readers.
