Monona Farmers' Market

Sunday, June 17, 2018

Celebrate Father’s Day at the Monona Farmers Market’s annual “Pop in for a Treat” event.

Dads can choose a little something special from a selection of “manly” treats.  Bring the whole family to enjoy late spring/early summer produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, munchies, specialty items and great music.

Setting the mood for the Fathers’ Day market is Dean’s Blue Country, a one-man performer playing old to new country.  His foot-stomping music includes the legendary songs of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Dwight and Buck, Jim Reeves, and Waylon Jennings.

Planting season is giving way to summer delights.  You’ll find snap peas, kohlrabi, radishes, spinach and a variety of greens.  Vendors are adding new produce each week.

Strawberries have arrived!  This flavorful summer treat is great alone or pairs well with other market produce.  For salads, combine with spinach or other fresh greens and top with crumbled blue cheese or goat cheese. Strawberries and rhubarb are great partners in pies, cobblers, crisps or compotes served over ice cream or yogurt.  For a refreshing treat, blend strawberries, rhubarb or other fruit to create a smoothie, frozen slush or sorbet.  With all the possibilities you might want to pick up and extra pint or two.

The Master Gardeners will be available to answer your garden and yard questions.  This is the perfect time to find out how to manage pests and invasive species that show up this time of year.  The Master Gardener volunteers are at the market the first and third Sunday each month through September.

The market, located at Ahuska Park, 400 East Broadway, is open every Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm through October 25th.  EBT is accepted and the Double Dollars Program is available.
