The Master Gardeners wrap up their season of volunteering this week. Stop by for some end-of-summer advice!
The Master Gardeners are an important part of the Monona Farmers’ Market. These volunteers are trained through the University of Wisconsin-Extension to help educate the public about gardening, protecting natural resources and keeping fresh fruits and vegetables on the table year round. They will wrap up their season of volunteering on Sunday. Stop by for expert advice on fall yard and garden work, how to can and preserve the season’s produce and to just say thanks.
John Duggleby, popular children’s author, songwriter and part time chicken dancer, is this week’s entertainer. John was a double finalist for Madison Area Music Association’s 2017 Awards for Best Children’s Performer and for his song, “Meet Me at the Watering Hole” for Best Children’s Song. Bring the whole family to enjoy music from the past 150 years, including some of Duggleby’s own compositions.
The change of seasons is visible at the market. You’ll find a bountiful selection of tomatoes, green beans, onions, potatoes, squash, pumpkins, eggplant, Brussels sprouts, apples, applesauce and cider, and colorful fall flowers. It’s the perfect time for canning and making those comfort foods like soups and stews.
EBT is accepted. The Double Dollars Program is available.
The market, located at Ahuska Park, 400 East Broadway, is open every Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm through October 29th.
